HONDURAS - Two active programs

Top left: Using their bikes like trucks, men haul large bunches of bananas
to market.
Top right: The bread salesman has modified his bike to make his deliveries.
He has several
routes in the state of Yoro, and makes several trips to the bakery every
day.
Bottom left: You just can't beat ice cream on a hot tropical day!
Bottom right: BiciTaxi - Bicycles rigged with recycled wheel chair "sidecars"
serve as taxis.

El Progreso, Yoro (ECOVIDE)
ECOVIDE (Ecology Living Standard and Development), associated with
Sofonias, a Swiss appropriate technology development agency, distributes
PfP bicycles to the working poor of El Progreso. Active in Yoro since 1997,
ECOVIDE continues to be an active PfP partnership program. A recent donation
of 40
computers from PSE&G has been put to work in El Progreso as well - so
far 11
of them have been installed in the public schools.
San Pedro Sula (IHER)
Sponsored by the Salesians, a Catholic order specialized in working
with disadvantaged youth.
This adult literacy program is receiving bicycles to enable its literacy
workers to more efficiently to reach students in remote rural areas. In
receiving bikes from PfP, IHER (Instituto Honduréno de Educación
Radial) also added an innovative component to its literacy efforts - this
new program trains its graduates in small business management and bicycle
repair skills in order to help them set up their own independent businesses
and enhance their incomes.
